Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the largest federal agency in nearly every country, is advising people not to purchase or use any of its products, including those containing sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, the only FDA-approved prescription drug for erectile dysfunction, the most recent study published in theJournal of Sexual Medicinereports on the market.
Thereported on the findings of an 18-week, observational study, the largest ever conducted on the market, that found Viagra was found to be effective for men with erectile dysfunction (ED) and for people with normal erectile function.
The study was published in theon Monday, Aug. 25. It compared the effectiveness of sildenafil and the drug, Viagra, at four major sexual health clinics in the U. and compared it to Viagra's effect on men with mild to moderate ED, known as mild sexual dysfunction, as well as people with mild to moderate ED, known as moderate to severe sexual dysfunction, and people with severe sexual dysfunction, known as severe sexual dysfunction.
Men who took the sildenafil study had greater rates of sexual dysfunction, compared with those who took the drug, with a similar difference among the three groups. Men who took the drug also reported lower levels of libido.
Viagra's active ingredient, sildenafil, works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. The drug also relaxes the blood vessels in the penis, allowing for increased blood flow.
The study showed that men with mild to moderate ED who took sildenafil had a higher rate of sexual dysfunction than men who took the drug. Viagra also had a lower rate of sexual dysfunction in those who were treated with sildenafil.
